SBU disrupts smuggling of Apple products to Ukraine

The SBU exposed two digital products smuggling channels to Ukraine. The dealers tried to smuggle a batch of gadgets worth over UAH 30 m. (USD 1.1 m.) through the Boryspil customs post.

To evade paying customs duties, the smugglers transported contraband under the guise of personal belongings.

During the investigation, the law enforcement officers seized more than 4,700 units of exclusive digital equipment, as well as a batch of branded jewelry from the suspects.

Apart from that, 168 packages of undeclared hookah tobacco and 715 kg of tobacco blends were found in the smugglers' shipments.

The SBU found out that the suspects set up channels for the illegal movement of electronic goods and tobacco products to Ukraine from the Middle East and the EU. To cover up illegal activities, they submitted fake invoices to the relevant authorities.

Allegedly, they planned to sell smuggled products through affiliated wholesalers and retailers.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case and bring to justice all those involved in illegal activities.

The operation was carried out by officers of the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime, investigators of the SBU Main Office in Kyiv city and Kyiv region in cooperation with the State Border Guard Service, under the supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The Security Service of Ukraine continues to systematically combat smuggling schemes that pose a threat to the national security.
