SBU exposes Kyiv travel agencies providing fake PCR tests for travelers
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed and blocked the scheme of forging COVID-19 PCR test results.
Reportedly, the illegal scheme was organized by two travel agencies in Kyiv. Their employees sold fake negative COVID certificates, although tourists did not even pass any tests.
The price of one certificate ranged from UAH 1,000 to 1,200 (USD 37-45).
The suspects forged the certificates of a Kyiv healthcare facility. The certificates looked genuine and showed negative PCR test results in English, were stamped with an ink seal, and contained a QR code.
During searches of the suspects’ offices, the law enforcement seized:
- forged Covid-19 certificates and stamp of a Kyiv healthcare facility;
- a computer and flash drives proving regular selling of forged certificates;
- a certain amount of cash from the sale of fake certificates.
The perpetrators are to be served notices of suspicion of fraud and forgery of documents, stamps, seals or letterheads.
The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Podilskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv.
