SBU documents multimillion losses to JSC Ukrzaliznytsia

The SBU exposed JSC Ukrzaliznytsia officials on the procurement of low-quality component part for railway tracks.

The SBU officers documented that in 2018, with the offenders’ assistance, businessmen organized an illegal supplying of the low-quality elements of the track superstructures, produced by JSC Dnipropetrovsk Railway Switch Plant. The offenders managed to supply goods for almost UAH 15 million (USD 422,500). In could lead to unstable operation of the railway infrastructure facilities.

The SBU initiated a number of examinations. It confirmed the inappropriate quality of goods and established that the state strategic company suffered losses in the amount of UAH 11.8 million (USD 415,400).

To avoid the potential negative consequences, the court seized almost a third of the low-quality goods.

While the examinations in 2020, the officials tried to procure the low-quality goods again. Due to the SBU information, the management of
 JSC Ukrzaliznytsia blocked the illegal scheme.

Within the criminal proceeding initiated for misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion or property by malversation, law enforcement officers conducted the searches in Kyiv and Dnipro cities under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office. 

The prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office served notices of suspicion of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion or property by malversation and neglect of official duty to the former deputy of an Ukrzaliznytsia Department and two heads of commercial structures .

The investigation is ongoing.
