SBU uncovers corrupt head of Ukrzaliznytsia unit

SBU exposed a head of the “Kyiv railway electrification system” unit on regular bribes.

It was established that the official systematically extorted money from businessmen for unimpeded connection the electrical equipment installations to the Ukrzaliznytsia networks. Within the initiated criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers documented that the suspect received UAH 100,000 (USD 3,572) from a businessman. Currently, the SBU is investigating facts of receiving bribes by the head from dozens of legal entities connected to the electricity networks via Ukrzaliznytsia unit.

SBU officers detained the offender pursuant to Art.208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of serving the head a suspicion notice of taking a bribe and choosing a type of detention is being settled.

The article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the Podil Police Department in city of Kyiv under the legal supervision of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 7.
