SSU prevents subversions in Southern Ukraine: channel to smuggle explosives from Crimea for FSB agents exposed

The SSU is continuously countering the intelligence and subversive activities of Russian special services against state security of Ukraine. The Service has disrupted a channel of transportation of munitions by the Russian FSB from the temporarily occupied Crimea to the mainland Ukraine.

In a special operation at Kalanchak checkpoint, a minibus was detained with almost half a kilogram of TNT. The explosive was hidden among parcels with household items.

It was established that the FSB agents tried to smuggle the detected munitions across the administrative border for their network in the South of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the group planned subversions to destabilize social and political situation in our country.

They hired a private carrier to covertly move the explosives. During the inspection of the vehicle, the law enforcement officers also uncovered:

  • military ID’s of Russian citizens;
  • ‘passports’ of the so-called ‘L/DNR’;
  • cold steel.

In addition, the SSU received information that the Russian special services plan to systematically smuggle weapons, ammunition and explosives for their intelligence networks in the mainland Ukraine.

To do this, they planned to try out channels of covert transportation via Kalanchak and Chongar checkpoints.

Urgent investigative and operational steps are underway to establish all the circumstances of the offence and detain those involved in subversive activities against Ukraine.

The Main SSU Directorate in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea carried out the operation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
