SSU prevents smuggling of components for firearms to Russia

The SSU is working to expose and shut down transnational channels of illicit arms trafficking. In an operation in Kharkiv region, the SSU uncovered a scheme of smuggling components for firearms to Russia.

The items seized from perpetrator include trigger assemblies for rifles and carbines.

According to the investigation, a resident of the region was involved in the organization of the channel. She attempted to send components for firearms to her accomplices in Russia.

To do that, the suspect used international services of one of the postal operators and entered false data into the accompanying documentation.

The SSU exposed the perpetrator on attempting to send the ‘parcel’. During the inspection, the law enforcement found 15 trigger assemblies for firearms and components for other weapons.

The SSU investigators have notified the perpetrator of suspicion of a crime under Article 201 (smuggling) of the CCU. The court is to decide on the measure of restraint.

The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the offence and bring all those involved to justice.

The SSU carried out the operation under the supervision of Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
