In Zakarpattia, SSU prevents terrorist attacks: agent of Russian special services faces trial
The SSU prevented terrorist attacks in the border area of Zakarpattia region. The attackers planned to commit arson of the Consulate General of a neighboring country and organize a contract killing of a public figure.
The planned terrorist attacks were aimed to destabilize the social and political situation in the region and discredit Ukraine in the international arena.
An organizer of the crimes was identified. According to findings, he is hiding in Russia.
The SSU sent case files to the court. The investigation is still ongoing to establish the offender’s whereabouts and detain him.
According to the investigation, the organizer is a native of Luhansk region. He was recruited by Russian special services to conduct subversive activities against the national security of Ukraine.
Tasked by his handlers, the agent planned to commit arson of a foreign diplomatic building, several cars with foreign number plates and damage a historical monument in Zakarpattia.
In addition, the attacker searched for a contract killer. He promised USD 30,000 reward for murder of a local public figure.
Moreover, the agent was tasked to collect intelligence on military facilities in the region.
In the course of investigative actions, SBU officers prevented the commission of crimes and identified the offenders.
An indictment for treason and terrorist attack was sent to the court.
The operation was carried out by SSU officers under the supervision of the Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor's Office.
