SSU detains 16-year-old enemy agent who made explosives to blow up police unit in Zhytomyr on russia’s orders
The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended an enemy agent who was preparing a terrorist attack against Ukrainian law enforcement officers in Zhytomyr on 19 January this year.
Then, the SSU detained two perpetrators on an attempt to undermine a police unit that was supposed to arrive at a call to the police line.
Now, another suspect has been detained – she manufactured two improvised explosive devices on russia’s orders, with which the enemy tried to blow up Zhytomyr police officers.
The detainee is a 16-year-old local resident, recruited by the russian special service on Telegram.
Following her handler’s instructions, the girl manufactured the IEDs herself and connected a mobile phone to one of them for remote activation.
Then she hid them in a cache and sent the geolocation to her russian handler.
Subsequently, two terrorists picked up the IEDs from these locations and attempted to blow up Ukrainian law enforcement officers.
After the terrorist attack was prevented, the girl laid low, hiding at her relatives’ homes.
The SSU Counterintelligence found and detained her in Berdychiv district.
It was established that while the suspect was hiding from justice, she received additional orders from russia to manufacture new IEDs.
During the searches, the SSU seized components for explosives, several SIM cards and a mobile phone with evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators have served her a notice of suspicion under Articles 15.2, 258.2 of the CCU (completed attempted terrorist act, upon prior conspiracy).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zhytomyr region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
