SSU detains lawyer who recruited agents for russia’s GRU and defended them in courts
In Kyiv, the SSU Counterintelligence and investigators detained another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). He is a Kyiv lawyer who recruited new agents for the russian service and defended already exposed enemy accomplices in courts.
As the investigation documented, the lawyer first helped the enemy to involve a spotter in Ukraine, and after the traitor was detained, he defended him in court.
The lawyer himself was recruited by Vitaly Naumov, a GRU serviceman, during a personal meeting in russia back in 2015.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, he not only looked for new agents and defended them in court, but also passed to the russians the information about the SSU officers who uncovered traitors and were named in the criminal proceedings. The enemy asset copied and handed over the case documents to the GRU.
For each task, the agent received money from Naumov through anonymous transfers.
The SSU documented the lawyer’s crimes and detained him at his home in Kyiv.
During the searches, his mobile phone, used for communication with the enemy and other agents, was seized.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.1, 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The decision on a measure of restraint is pending. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
