SSU detains lawyer who spied on Ukrainian checkpoints in Kramatorsk
The SSU has detained another FSB informant who collected intelligence in the frontline area of Donetsk oblast.
The spy is a lawyer from Kramatorsk, who lived in russia in 2019-2022 and had contacts with the aggressor’s intelligence services.
Before the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, he returned to Kramatorsk and in the spring this year received his first assignment from his FSB handler.
On his instructions, the agent was tracking routes and sites of temporary deployment of Ukrainian Defence Forces in the frontline city.
The occupiers were primarily interested in precise coordinates of Ukrainian checkpoints, number of servicemen present there, their weapons and military equipment.
The informant passed the intelligence to the FSB via an anonymous chat in a messenger app and included geolocation of the AFU’s facilities and their characteristics.
For each completed assignment, the FSB paid its asset a monetary ‘reward’, transferring it to his bank card.
The invaders promised to later extract the agent to russia.
However, the SSU identified and apprehended the traitor.
During the search, the SSU seized 2 mobile phones, bank cards and additional SIM cards, which he had registered in messenger apps for covert communication with the russian special service.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detained lawyer a notice of suspicion under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (collaboration).
The suspect is in custody, facing up to 15 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
