SSU detains FSB agent preparing environmental terrorist attack in Odesa region (video)

The SSU’s cyber units have detained an FSB agent who was spying for the enemy in Odesa oblast.

His main task was to identify and provide the aggressor with the coordinates of sites where toxic substances are stored, including pesticide depots.

The agent also reconnoitered places of possible bases and routes of movement of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

The occupiers planned to carry out air strikes on these locations using missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

In this way, the enemy hoped to cause an environmental disaster in the region and undermine the internal situation in the country.

To collect information, the perpetrator started working as a taxi driver and, under the pretext of transporting passengers, recorded the locations of the targets.

As a result of a multi-stage special operation, the SSU documented the suspect’s criminal actions and apprehended him.

According to the investigation, the enemy asset was a student of one of Odesa universities. In the autumn of 2023, he was contacted remotely by an FSB officer, whom the SSU has identified.

In online correspondence, the student was offered to secretly cooperate and receive a ‘salary’ from the russian service.

The agent communicated with the enemy via a popular messenger app and used a number of SIM cards and mobile phones for conspiracy.

During the searches, the SSU seized all the devices he used in the reconnaissance and sabotage activities against Ukraine.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces life imprisonment.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
