SSU detains FSB agent preparing breakthrough of russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in Sumy region
The SSU has detained ‘red-handed’ another FSB agent who was reconnoitering locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Sumy region.
The perpetrator was trying to identify locations of large concentrations of personnel and heavy weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine protecting the border areas.
To gather intelligence, he walked and covertly recorded positions of Ukrainian troops, pretending to be talking over the phone.
His other task was to set up his own network of informants for enhanced intelligence-collection in the region.
The occupiers hoped to use the agent’s information to carry out targeted missile and artillery strikes on Ukrainian military, as well as to prepare routes for a breakthrough of russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups to the border area in Sumy region.
However, the SSU was proactive – the traitor was identified in time, his criminal actions – documented, and he was caught ‘red-handed’.
This allowed to foil the enemy’s plans and protect Ukrainian defenders.
According to the investigation, the detainee is a 54-year-old Sumy resident, recruited remotely by the FSB in August 2023.
The man’s pro-kremlin comments on his Odnoklassniki page brought him to the FSB’s attention.
After the recruitment, the communication was carried out in an anonymous chat in a messenger app. Photos with text descriptions of Ukrainian targets were sent to the aggressor through this chat, as well.
The occupiers paid their asset in cryptocurrency for each completed assignment.
During the searches, the SSU seized the suspect’s bank card and a mobile phone with evidence of his crimes.
SSU investigators have served the detained agent a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
