SSU detains FSB agent who tried to burn power substation supplying military airfield in Kirovohrad region

In Kirovohrad region, the SSU has prevented a large-scale sabotage act by russia. As a result of a special operation, the Service detained an enemy agent who tried to burn down a power substation that supplies power to a military airfield and other strategic facilities in the oblast.

The perpetrator is a 21-year-old local resident who was remotely recruited by russia’s federal security service in August 2024. The young man came to the attention of the occupiers because of his pro-kremlin comments on russian Telegram channels.

To carry out test tasks, the agent collected information on the technical condition of power facilities and monitored locations of military hospitals and buildings of Territorial Recruitment Centers.

A messenger app was used to transmit the data to his russian handler as text messages and marks on Google maps.

Later, the asset received a new assignment – to penetrate the territory of a key power substation and set it on fire using a flammable mixture and then film the fire.

In case the facility is destroyed, the occupiers promised their accomplice RUB 200,000.

The SSU uncovered the traitor at an early stage, documented his crimes and detained him ‘red-handed’ when he was conducting reconnaissance near the target.

Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the locations of the Defence Forces.

At the place of detention, a mobile phone with an anonymous chat, which he used to communicate with the FSB, was seized from the suspect.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Kirovohrad Region Prosecutor’s Office.
