SSU detains FSB agent who spied in Bukovyna posing as courier

The SSU and the National Police have prevented a series of russian missile strikes on critical infrastructure in Chernivtsi oblast.

As a result of a special operation in Chernivtsi, an FSB agent was detained, he was preparing coordinates for strikes on key transportation routes.

The enemy’s priority targets included junction stations and railroad routes used by Ukraine’s Defense Forces to transport heavy weapons and ammunition to the front.

The occupiers were also interested in the geolocations of medical facilities where Ukrainian soldiers undergo treatment and rehabilitation.

Acting under the guise of a courier of a popular delivery service, the agent drove around the area on his scooter and recorded the targets.

He was supposed to send the data to his russian handler in a personal chat in a messenger app.

The SSU thwarted the aggressor’s plans and detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he was preparing a report for the FSB.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident, an ideological supporter of ruscism.

He came to the attention of the occupiers through his acquaintance from russia, who cooperated with the FSB.

The man also spread pro-kremlin views in russian video chats. During such broadcasts, he spoke in support of the armed aggression against Ukraine and justified russia’s war crimes.

During the searches of the suspect’s apartment, two mobile phones and a computer with evidence of the crime were seized.

SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.1 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Chernivtsi region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
