SSU detains russian agent who planned to adjust missile strike on power plant and military hospital in Dnipro
The SSU’s cyber units have thwarted a new russian attempt to launch a missile attack on the military and critical infrastructure of Dnipro.
As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Dnipro, an FSB agent was caught ‘red-handed’ when conducting reconnaissance near the Defence Forces hospital.
The perpetrator wanted to establish an approximate number of Ukrainian servicemen undergoing inpatient treatment there. He was also monitoring medical transport arriving at the territory of the facility.
The enemy agent attempted to pass the information through an anonymous chat in a messenger, including the coordinates of the hospital.
The occupiers planned to use the data to prepare a missile attack. A local thermal power station, supplying electricity to much of the city, was another potential target for the enemy.
Following the FSB’s instructions, their asset filmed the TPP and the surrounding area on his mobile phone.
The russians requested this to learn about its technical condition and ‘take it into account’ while preparing a new series of strikes on the city.
The SSU documented the enemy agent’s activities and identified his russian handler.
Action was taken to ensure the safety of the Defence Forces personnel and protect the infrastructure.
According to the investigation, the traitor is a 22-year-old local resident. He was recruited remotely by an FSB officer in February this year.
The man came to the aggressor’s attention as an active user of russian Telegram channels looking for quick money. The occupiers paid him to his bank card.
During the search of the suspect’s home, a mobile phone with evidence of the crime and a card with russian money were seized.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111-2. of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
