SSU detains russian agent who spied on HIMARS and M777 long-range howitzers positions on southern direction

In the course of counter-sabotage efforts in the frontline areas of Dnipropetrovsk region, the SSU Counterintelligence detained another russian agent. The spy collected information on temporary deployment and movement of Ukrainian troops in the region.

This russian agent’s task was also to identify possible combat positions of HIMARS and long-range British howitzers M777 near the front line.

In addition, the traitor adjusted numerous missile strikes on Nikopol, in particular on energy infrastructure, and ‘reported’ to occupiers on the consequences of their attacks.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a local resident, recruited by russian special services after the start of the full-scale invasion.

The aggressor state recruited the traitor through social networks, where he repeatedly posted information on Ukrainian military positions.

To conduct reconnaissance and sabotage, the russian agent travelled around the area and carried out covert surveillance of the targets.

He passed the collected intelligence to invaders by anonymous messenger apps in the form of georeferenced photos with detailed descriptions.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone and computer equipment with evidence of covert communication with his moscow ‘supervisor.’

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU). Court chose custody as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Officers in Dnipro, Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
