SSU detains russian agent who collected coordinates of Ukrainian ‘decision-making centers’ near northern border
The SSU Counterintelligence located and detained a russian agent in Chernihiv region. The spy collected intelligence on location of the ‘command and control centers’ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the SSU, coordinates of local government facilities and hospitals.
The aggressor’s accomplice was also tracking movements of Ukrainian troops in the region.
Ruscists planned to use the obtained intelligence for massive air strikes on state institutions and social infrastructure.
According to the investigation, the detainee is a resident of Severodonetsk, who several years ago moved to Chernihiv region and received the status of an internally displaced person.
The individual in question was recruited by russian special services after the start of the full-scale invasion. The man came to the attention of the aggressor because of his pro-kremlin position and repeated statements in support of russia’s military actions against Ukraine.
However, the agent started to carry out the enemy’s assignments after the liberation of Chernihiv region. Following his handler’s instructions, he photographed Ukrainian facilities, georeferencing and putting them on electronic maps.
Then, he passed the data to the aggressor by anonymous messenger apps. For his ‘work’, the agent received money from russia.
The SSU documented how the agent collected intelligence on the location of a border outpost and several Ukrainian checkpoints near the state border.
During the search, the SSU seized a mobile phone with evidence of unlawful activity from the suspect.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion. Court chose custody as a measure of restraint.
The SSU Office in Chernihiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Chernihiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
