SSU detains agent of russia's 'gru' who helped ruscists bomb Vovchansk

The SSU detained another agent of russian military intelligence (better known as the ‘gru’) in Kharkiv region. The perpetrator was preparing coordinates for enemy attacks on the Defense Forces defending the Vovchansk city.

The suspect was a 34-year-old local unemployed man who was remotely recruited by a russian intelligence officer on the eve of the ruscists offensive in Kharkiv region.

When the fighting for Vovchansk began, the agent was instructed by the occupiers to stay in the city despite the round-the-clock shelling by the russian federation and the mandatory evacuation of the civilian population.

Later, under the guise of an ordinary resident of the community, he regularly walked around the area and covertly recorded the locations of Ukrainian troops.

The enemy was most interested in the location of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' fortifications, firing positions, repair bases, and ammunition depots.

After the reconnaissance raids, the agent ‘reported’ to his russian supervisor about the received information.

The occupiers reportedly used this information to prepare attacks on Ukrainian defenders.

In this way, the ruscists tried to break through the defense of our troops in order to capture Vovchansk.

The SSU counterintelligence officers established the agent's location and detained him in Chuhuiv district when he decided to ‘lay low’ and left the city to visit his mother.

During the search, a cell phone was confiscated from the detainee. It contained evidence of his communication with the ‘gru’.

SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the SSU investigators in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
