SSU detains GRU agent who helped ruscists break through to Pokrovsk
In Donetsk region, the SSU has detained another agent of russian military intelligence. The perpetrator was reconnoitering combat positions of Ukrainian troops holding defence in Pokrovsk sector.
The enemy was focusing on fortifications and firing positions of Ukrainian army’s ground units.
The russian military intelligence was also trying to identify locations of logistics centers for repair of military equipment and the Defence Forces ammunition depots.
In case of obtaining the information, the occupiers planned to use it to prepare strikes and combat operations.
To identify the coordinates, the aggressor recruited a 49-year-old unemployed man from Kramatorsk. He came to the GRU’s attention because of his pro-kremlin activity on the banned social network Odnoklassniki.
The perpetrator drove around or walked in area near the front line and covertly recorded positions of Ukrainian troops.
He marked the data on Google maps and sent it to his russian handler with detailed text descriptions.
The SSU uncovered the traitor at an early stage and, after documenting the crime, detained him at his home.
During the search, the investigators seized his mobile phone, used for communication with the GRU.
Based on the evidence, the SSU notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
