SSU detains GRU agent preparing enemy breakthroughs in Donetsk region

In Donetsk region, the SSU has detained another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (known as ‘the GRU’).

The perpetrator was helping the aggressor to break through the Ukrainian defence line on Pokrovsk direction, which remains the hottest area on the eastern front.

On the instructions of the russian intelligence, the traitor reconnoitered the locations of Ukrainian defenders near the frontline.

He was mainly focused on collecting information on fortifications and combat positions of the AFU artillery, firing on the russian assault groups.

To identify the targets, the asset walked around the area and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian servicemen.

The occupiers needed the data to prepare combat operations, using air strikes, artillery and sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

The SSU’s cyber units uncovered the aggressor’s plans timely and detained the agent.

The Service also took action to protect the locations of Ukrainian units.

During the searches, the investigators seized the suspect’s mobile phone and bank cards, to which he received money from the GRU.

Based on the evidence, the detainee was notified of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
