SSU detains agent of russian GRU preparing new air strikes on Kharkiv
The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended an enemy agent who was preparing a new air strike on Kharkiv.
The traitor was working for the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (better known as ‘the GRU’).
To carry out the aggressor’s assignments, he drove around the city and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian Defence Forces.
The spy was trying to identify coordinates of railway junctions where the AFU’s military equipment and ammunition are unloaded.
During such ‘sorties’, the man tried to find out how local strategic enterprises were operating, including local aviation companies.
The SSU detained the enemy agent red-handed near an industrial facility in Kharkiv, when he was conducting additional reconnaissance.
According to the investigation, the aggressor’s accomplice is a local resident whom the russian intelligence service noticed because of his posts on social media after the full-scale invasion began.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found mobile phones and computer equipment used for communication with the GRU.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Offices in Rivne and Kharkiv regions carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
