SSU detains russian agents who adjusted double Iskander strike on high-rise building in Donetsk region

In Donetsk oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence has neutralized a group of agents of russian military intelligence. As a result of a special operation, six of the perpetrators were simultaneously detained. They were operating from different addresses and were adjusting russian strikes on the region.

On 7 August 2023, the occupiers launched a double attack with Iskander missiles on Pokrovsk using the information provided by these assets.

During the first attack, the russians hit an apartment block. When the police and rescuers arrived at the scene, the aggressor struck again.

As a result, there were numerous civilian casualties.

This intelligence network was also preparing coordinates for missile strikes on the locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces on Avdiivka direction.

To do this, the agents walked in the target areas alone, trying to covertly record Ukrainian defensive positions.

The members of the group acted separately from each other but were communicating with the same handler from the GRU. The SSU has already identified him.

This ‘handler’ created and remotely controlled the group, which included six residents of Pokrovsk district.

To find and recruit them, the GRU serviceman used pro-kremlin Telegram channels, where these people posted their anti-Ukrainian comments.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes, the SSU found mobile phones that they used in reconnaissance and sabotage activities against Ukraine.

SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
