SSU detains enemy agents who adjusted 21 September attack on Kyiv (video)
The SSU cyber units have detained two russian agents who adjusted the aggressor’s air strike on Kyiv on the night of September 21.
The SSU established that on the eve of this day the suspects had sent coordinates for the attack to the occupiers.
The targets were the capital’s vital infrastructure, including energy generating enterprises.
According to the investigation, two local residents, acting on the instructions of russia’s GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces), were involved in ‘guiding’ russian missiles on Kyiv.
They came to the attention of russia’s military intelligence because of their anti-Ukrainian posts on social media, which they disseminated after the launch of the full-scale invasion.
Then, the GRU recruited both men remotely and gave the assignment to gather intelligence in Kyiv.
The enemy assets then tracked locations and movements of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Kyiv region.
To do this, they walked in target areas and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian defenders. The informants also used their acquaintances to extract ‘necessary’ information during seemingly everyday conversations.
The agents also sent photos and geolocations of strategically important energy infrastructure facilities to their handler.
A messenger app and several anonymous accounts were used for transmitting the data.
For each completed assignment, the offenders received money from russia, transferred to their bank cards from anonymous ‘payers’.
During the searches of the two suspects’ homes, the SSU seized mobile phones used for photographing Ukrainian targets and communicating with the aggressor.
The SSU also found bank cards to which the enemy agents received payments from GRU handlers.
SSU investigators have notified both detainees of suspicion under Article 28.2, 111.2 of the CCU (high treason under martial law, committed by a group of persons).
The suspects are in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
