SSU detains FSB agent who tried to join Cherkasy region local government

As a result of a special operation in Cherkasy region, the SSU exposed another FSB agent.

Following the enemy’s instructions, the traitor collected information on locations and movements of the Defence Forces.

To do this, she traveled around the oblast and studied the situation around Ukrainian military units.

The agent transmitted coordinates and detailed descriptions of the targets to the aggressor in a closed chat of a messenger app.

In addition, the suspect spread fakes about the war in Ukraine on the banned social network Vkontakte and justified the occupiers’ actions.

Subsequently, the russian agent received another assignment - to get a job in the local government to carry out reconnaissance and sabotage activities inside the institution.

If the woman were employed, she would collect data on technical condition and functioning of local critical infrastructure facilities.

However, the spy failed to carry out the task - the SSU documented her criminal actions in stages and detained her.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident whom russian intelligence services recruited remotely earlier this year.

In case of successful ‘work’, occupiers promised her a high monetary reward.

During a search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found the mobile phone that she used to communicate with the FSB.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detained agent of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.2, 436.3 (justification, recognition of the legitimacy, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Office in Cherkasy region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
