SSU detains GRU agent preparing caches for terrorist attacks in Odesa
In Odesa, the Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended an agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). The perpetrator set fire to power facilities on Ukrainian railways and prepared caches with firearms and explosive components.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a 32-year-old woman from Odesa, recruited remotely by a serviceman of the russian GRU special operations forces at the end of last year.
On his instructions, the traitor set fire to a relay cabinet of a signaling installation and a transformer substation on a local railway line.
Then, the agent received a new task – to set up a cache with components for an improvised explosive device near the port.
To do this, the woman travelled to Dnipro, where, using the coordinates from her russian handler, took an explosive element disguised as a cigarette pack from the cache.
Upon returning to Odesa, the traitor tried to plant the component for the bomb in a previously prepared cache near the port infrastructure.
At this stage, the SSU Counterintelligence detained the agent and seized a part of the explosive device.
It was also established that the next component for the cache was a firearm, which the woman was to bring from another frontline city.
During the searches, a mobile phone with evidence of her communication with the GRU was seized.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The decision to qualify the perpetrator’s actions also under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law) is pending.
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
