Mykolaiv region: SSU detains russian agent preparing new air strikes on ‘decision-making centers’

SSU counterintelligence officers prevented an attempt by ruscists to obtain the coordinates of buildings where military and civilian administrations and units of the Defense Forces were temporarily deployed in Mykolaiv region.

In the course of a counter-sabotage operation in the front-line areas of the region, another agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the russian federation (aka GRU) was detained.

The traitor’s main task was to establish the exact coordinates of the administrative buildings of local executive authorities and the time when officials should be present there.

In addition, the spy tried to identify possible positions of long-range artillery of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including HIMARS rocket artillery systems, which are involved in combat operations of Ukrainian troops in the southern direction.

The traitor passed the intelligence to the russian special service through a ‘liaison’, her

close relative, who previously served in the disbanded Berkut special forces and is now member of the russian occupation police in temporarily occupied Crimea.

The russian invaders needed the intelligence to prepare a new series of missile strikes on Ukrainian targets in Mykolaiv region.

The SSU exposed the offender in time, documented her criminal actions and detained her on an attempt to transfer intelligence to the aggressor state.

According to the investigation, the enemy informer was a local resident who was recruited by the russian GRU this spring.

During searches, the detainee was seized of a mobile phone that she used to communicate with russian special service.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators have notified the traitor of suspicion.

The suspect is in custody, facing up to 12 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Mykolaiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
