SSU detains enemy agent looking for AFU’s repair bases in Zhytomyr region
In Zhytomyr oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence has exposed another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (better known as the ‘GRU’).
The spy collected intelligence on locations of military bases for repairing heavy weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including foreign-made ones.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a woman, an IDP from Donetsk region, who moved to Zhytomyr oblast in the spring 2023.
After the move, she approached russian intelligence services on her own initiative and offered assistance in the war against Ukraine.
To do this, she became an active member of various groups on the banned social network Odnoklassniki and posted there anti-Ukrainian messages and comments.
Then, one of her interlocutors offered covert cooperation for the benefit the aggressor state.
The investigation revealed that the ‘stranger’ was a GRU serviceman.
For successful completion of assignments, he promised a russian passport and help in moving to russia.
First, the informant passed the collected data through secure chats in a messenger app.
However, later, the russian handler switched the asset to communicating via an encrypted email channel.
The SSU apprehended the traitor a few days before she was going to leave for russia through third countries.
During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found mobile phones used for the communication with the aggressor.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zhytomyr region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
