The SSU detained an agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (‘the GRU’) in Dnipro and her daughter, an ideological ruscist from Kyiv region.

Both women praised putin and glorified russian occupation forces fighting against Ukraine.

However, the main ‘mission’ of the mother, the GRU agent, was to adjust enemy fire on the locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

The russian military intelligence instructed her to collect information on sites with large concentrations of the AFU personnel and heavy weapons.

To identify potential targets, the asset travelled around the area, covertly recording temporary bases of Ukrainian units.

She planned to transmit the intelligence via a messenger app to her GRU handler to prepare the air strikes.

The SSU disrupted the transfer of the data and took action to protect the AFU positions.

In the final stage of the operation, the SSU apprehended the perpetrator at her home.

According to the investigation, the detained Dnipro resident was recruited in 2023 by a GRU officer, whom the SSU has identified.

The detainee’s daughter, living in Kyiv region, has been regularly justifying the aggressive war against Ukraine, for example, the enemy missile attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.

SSU investigators have notified both women of suspicion under Articles 436-2.1, 436-2.3 of the CCU (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The criminal actions of the GRU agent are also qualified under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law). She is custody without the right to bail.

The suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
