SSU detains GRU agent who spied on Lyman defenders and waited for occupation
The SSU Counterintelligence had apprehended another enemy agent in Donetsk region. The perpetrator is a 67-year-old resident of Lyman, who worked for the russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) and was waiting for the seizure of the city.
On russia’s orders, the woman walked in the outskirts of the frontline town and recorded the locations of the Defense Forces.
Her targets were the locations of fortifications and firing positions of Ukrainian units involved in combat operations in Lyman sector.
The aggressor needed the information to plan further military actions aimed at advancing deeper into Donetsk region and seizing more ground.
The asset also reported to her russian handler on the consequences of russian strikes on the town and surrounding areas.
The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the traitor, documented her crimes and detained her. Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
During the searches, a mobile phone with evidence of communication with the russian service was seized from the detainee.
According to the investigation, the enemy found the individual remotely, through her friends in russia who support the war against Ukraine and cooperate with the GRU.
After recruitment, the woman contacted the russian military intelligence through a ‘liaison’ - a militant of the russian troops fighting on the eastern front.
SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
