SSU detains FSB agents preparing missile strikes on Kyiv TV tower and units of AFU General Staff
The SSU’s cyber units have uncovered the enemy’s new attempts to damage Ukraine’s strategic infrastructure.
As a result of a special operation in Kyiv and Odesa, two FSB agents were apprehended. They were preparing missile strikes on military units of the Defence Forces, energy and telecommunications facilities in three regions.
The group was focused on army units that ensure security of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, data on the Defence Forces in Poltava region, the TV tower and a power plant in the capital.
At first, the perpetrators tried to identify locations of Ukrainian troops and then pass the coordinates to the occupiers to adjust the air attacks.
To covertly gather intelligence, one of the russian assets got a job as a freight forwarder at an Odesa-based company that supplies food for the Defence Forces.
Another spy collected information on the technical condition of the Kyiv TV tower after it was hit in March 2022.
He also photographed the outside of a thermal power plant that provides electricity and heat to a large part of Kyiv region.
The aggressor needed this information to adjust new strikes on the energy facility and the TV tower.
The SSU timely uncovered the intelligence gathering and documented the crime. Measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defence Forces and to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.
The two agents were detained ‘red-handed’ when they were reconnoitering potential ‘targets’.
According to the investigation, one of the enemy accomplices is a process engineer at a food processing enterprise in Odesa. The other is a 24-year-old Kyiv resident.
In late January this year, they were recruited remotely by an FSB officer in moscow and moscow region. The SSU has already identified him.
Both agents acted separately from each other and received money from russia for their ‘work’ for the aggressor.
During the searches of the suspects’ homes, the SSU seized mobile phones with evidence of communication with the enemy and bank cards with russian funds on them.
SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment.
The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
