SSU detains enemy agent group that tried to blow up veteran law enforcement officer in Dnipro on russia’s order
The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attack in Dnipro. As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained an enemy agent group that attempted to blow up a former law enforcement officer.
The ruscists engaged three agents to commit the crime: a 52-year-old nurse from Vinnytsia region, a 26-year-old unemployed Kharkiv resident and his 20-year-old girlfriend. They were recruited through a Telegram channel offering ‘quick money’.
The investigation established that the perpetrators were going to kill the man using an improvised explosive device, which the woman from Vinnytsia region was to activate when he approached his garage.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained her as she was preparing to detonate the bomb using a remote control.
A pair of aggressor’s agents from Kharkiv were apprehended immediately afterwards.
Following the enemy instructions, they travelled to Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region, where they took the IED from a cache.
They then travelled to Dnipro and left the bomb in a rented apartment. After that, the two agents returned to Kharkiv to lay low and wait for further instructions from their russian handler.
Before leaving, the couple hid the keys in a flower bed next to the house for the agent from Vinnytsia region.
At this location, the woman picked up the IED and placed it near the agreed garage in the yard where the veteran law enforcement officer lives.
SSU investigators have served all three detainees notices of suspicion under Article 258.2 of the CCU (completed attempted terrorist act).
The suspects are in custody and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Region.
