SSU detains banker working for russian military intelligence in Kharkiv

In Kharkiv, the SSU has apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence. He was working for a spy, a russian citizen and an employee of a Ukrainian bank, who was preparing missile and bomb attacks on city.

In July this year, the SSU Counterintelligence detained the russian in his apartment.

Investigating his criminal activities, the SSU identified his accomplice. He turned out to be head of a unit at another branch of a local bank.

On the orders of the russian, the bank official reconnoitered the positions of Ukrainian defenders in and near Kharkiv.

To do this, the traitor drove around the city in his car and covertly recorded locations of military facilities on his phone camera.

He also collected information for the occupiers about the sites hit and consequences of russian air strikes on the city.

The agent passed the data to the russian spy during personal meetings as well as via a messenger app. After each communication session, he deleted all the messages from the anonymous chat.

But this did not help him. After exposing the aggressor’s spy, the SSU Counterintelligence apprehended his informant.

During the searches, the investigators seized his mobile phone, used in reconnaissance and sabotage against Ukraine.

SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The criminal actions of the russian spy are qualified under two Articles of the CCU, including 114.1 (espionage).

Both suspects are in custody and face from 15 years in prison to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
