The SSU Main Directorate of Internal Security has exposed an entrepreneur in Mykolaiv region who tried to bribe an SSU officer.

According to the investigation, the businessman is involved into the criminal proceedings on unauthorized appropriation of 400 hectares of land at the Shyrokyi Lan military training ground.

In exchange for UAH 1 million bribe, the alleged offered the Ukrainian special service officer to influence the investigator of the National Police. In particular, the defendant asked to cancel the forfeiture of the land plot, which the entrepreneur seized to run his agricultural business.

However, the SSU officer immediately reported the offer to his superiors.

This allowed to gradually document the criminal actions of the businessman and detain red-handed while transferring part of the illegal benefit.

He has been served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 Art. 369 of the CCU (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official).

The court imposed on the detainee a custodial measure of restraint in the form of detention with a possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 6 million.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The offender is facing up to 8 years of imprisonment with forfeiture of property.

The operation was carried out jointly with the SSU Office in Mykolaiv region and the National Police under the supervision of the Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor's Office.
