SSU detains council member from Opposition Platform – For Life and head of Kyiv bank branch who offered conscripts to flee abroad

The SSU has blocked new channels of Ukrainian men of conscription age illegally leaving the country. As a result of operations in Kyiv and Lutsk, two organizers of illegal traffic were detained.

One of them is a member of Chernihiv District Council from the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party. He offered potential conscripts to leave Ukraine under the guise of fathers of many children.

For money, the individual promised to provide false birth certificates of kids, as well as unhindered ‘escort’ through checkpoints on the border.

The organizer charged from USD 3,000 for such ‘services.’ The amount depended on the urgency of departure and the client’s social status.

The offender involved his friend from Volyn as an intermediary for handing over the money.

However, the SSU exposed the scheme and detained both offenders in Lutsk when they received part of the illegal benefit.

Another channel of illegal migration was shut down in Kyiv. This time, the unlawful activity was organized by a director of a branch of one of the banks in the capital.

For USD 16,000, the organizer ‘guaranteed’ to the evaders his assistance in crossing the border by providing them with forged documents on unfitness for military service.

The SSU documented the facts of criminal activity and detained the official near his office after he received the full sum from a ‘client’.

The detainees were notified of suspicion under Article 332.3 of the CCU (illegal transportation of persons across Ukraine’s state border). Court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspects.

The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Kyiv and Kyiv region and Volyn region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Desnianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv and Volyn Region Prosecutor’s Office.
