SSU detains university associate professor who worked for russia’s GRU and adjusted enemy strikes on Kharkiv
In Kharkiv, the SSU Counterintelligence has exposed another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (known as the GRU), who adjusted russian missile and artillery strikes on the city’s military and critical infrastructure.
The traitor is a 49-year-old associate professor at one of Kharkiv’s universities, recruited remotely by the russian military intelligence after the full-scale invasion.
One of his main tasks was to record the consequences of missile and artillery attacks on a defence enterprise in Kharkiv oblast, which russia has repeatedly stricken.
The enemy asset was also tracking movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and locations of logistics warehouses, including those with ammunition and equipment for Ukrainian soldiers.
Another of his assignments was to monitor the activities of international volunteer organizations in Kharkiv.
The SSU exposed the GRU’s agent and detained him in his apartment in Kharkiv.
According to the investigation, he transmitted collected intelligence to the enemy using a messenger app in the form of texts and markings on electronic maps.
During the searches of the suspect’s home, the SSU seized a mobile phone and computer equipment with evidence of cooperation with the aggressor.
SSU investigators have served the detained individual a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
