SSU detains two enemy agents who prepared terrorist attack near Rivne district police department

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented a terrorist attack in downtown Rivne. As a result of the special operation, the Service apprehended two agents of russian intelligence who were preparing an explosion near the district police department.

The perpetrators were to leave an improvised explosive device disguised in a bag near the administrative building of the law enforcement agency.

At the time of planting the device, the enemy planned to detonate it by calling a mobile phone connected to the IED.

The terrorist attack was to take place when many law enforcement officers were near the police unit, and the agents themselves were still near the explosives.

In this way, the ruscists planned to kill a maximum number of police officers and ordinary citizens and also eliminate the perpetrators of the attack as ‘unnecessary’ witnesses.

The SSU uncovered the traitors at an early stage and thus thwarted the attack. The two agents were caught in the act when they were trying to plant explosives near the district police department.

At the scene, a bag with an IED and additional covert surveillance devices with remote access for russian special services was seized from the suspects.

They are two 19-year-olds who were looking for quick money on Telegram channels.

After arriving in Rivne, they received the geolocation of the cache from the russians and picked up the IED for the terrorist attack.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators will notify the detainees of suspicion under Articles 15.2, 258.2of the CCU (completed attempted terrorist act).

The suspects are in custody and face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Rivne Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
