SSU detains two russian agents who looked for ‘weaknesses’ in Sumy region defence (video)

The SSU Counterintelligence detained two enemy agents who were conducting reconnaissance of border areas in Sumy region.

They were collecting information about the deployment and number of troops and weapons as well as fortifications of Ukrainian Defence Forces. The enemy planned to use this information to send sabotage and reconnaissance groups to the region.

According to the investigation, the two informants were recruited by russian special services in the course of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The agents took photos and videos of military facilities and passed georeferenced files to the FSB.

To communicate with each other and transmit data to the enemy, they used secure electronic communication channels.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes, the SSU found computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of communication with russian supervisors.

SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion of treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).

The operation was carried out by the SSU Offices in Sumy and Vinnytsia regions under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
