SSU detains ex-policeman who spied on Defence Forces in southern Ukraine

In Mykolaiv oblast, the SSU exposed another enemy agent: a former law enforcement officer, dismissed from the National Police in March 2023. The traitor worked for russia’s FSB and passed information to the aggressor on locations and movements of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.

The operation was carried out with the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko’s personal assistance.

According to the investigation, the aggressor’s informant is a resident of Mykolaiv. From 2016 to 2020, he lived in the temporarily occupied Crimea and periodically travelled to russia, where was recruited by the russian intelligence service.

With the start of the full-scale invasion, the asset was instructed to return to mainland Ukraine and join one of the National Police units.

While serving there, he not only spied for the enemy, but also carried out sabotage against Ukraine. The SSU established that the individual in question had passed false information to Ukrainian defenders on movement of russian military equipment.

The officer was dismissed from law enforcement after a drunk driving accident. However, he continued to work for russia.

The SSU closely followed the suspect’s every move, documented his criminal activity and detained him.

To communicate with the invaders, the agent used ‘liaisons’. One of them was the pro-kremlin blogger Sergey Lebedev (better known as ‘Lokhmatyi’), who is in the temporarily occupied Donetsk and works for the FSB.

During the search, a mobile phone was seized from the enemy agent, which he used to communicate with the aggressor.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion.

The court chose custody as a measure of restraint.

The SSU Office in Mykolaiv region conducted the operation under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
