SSU detains former ‘party of regions’ member - FSB agent adjusting russian bomb strikes on Sumy oblast
The SSU has prevented an enemy air attack on the new defence lines in the border area of Sumy region. The aggressor planned to use guided aerial bombs to hit Ukrainian fortifications.
As a result of a special operation, an FSB agent was detained ‘red-handed’ while conducting additional reconnaissance near the defence line.
The perpetrator tried to establish accurate coordinates of a military facility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to adjust the air strike on it.
During the detention, the SSU seized the suspect’s mobile phone, from which he tried to send photos and geolocation of the target to the aggressor.
Due to a prompt response, the SSU thwarted the attempt by the russian intelligence to obtain information from their asset and use it to prepare the attack.
According to the investigation, the detained individual is a former local ‘functionary’ of the banned party of regions.
After the de-occupation of Sumy oblast, the man was recruited remotely by an FSB officer to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage.
The ex-member of the pro-russian party came to the FSB’s attention through his posts in a messenger app, in which he praised the kremlin regime.
To carry out the enemy’s tasks, the agent walked to the target area and covertly photographed military facilities and recorded their coordinates.
Based on the evidence, the SSU served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
