SSU detains enemy informant who spied on Ukrainian defenders in hottest spots of Donetsk region
In Donetsk oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence has detained another agent of russian intelligence services. The perpetrator was trying to establish geolocations of the Defence Forces near the hottest spots of the eastern front.
The enemy informant tried to identify strongholds and firing positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk directions.
The occupiers hoped to use this information to carry out missile strikes on Ukrainian positions.
However, the SSU uncovered the aggressor’s plans at an early stage and documented the suspect’s actions.
As a result, measures were taken to protect the AFU units and the enemy accomplice was apprehended in his home.
According to the investigation, he is a local resident who cooperated with the russian intelligence remotely, through an acquaintance in russia.
An anonymous chat in a social network was used for communication.
During the searches, the SSU seized computer equipment and a mobile phone with evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or location of the AFU).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
