SSU detains enemy informant spying on Defence Forces in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

The SSU Counterintelligence has foiled another attempt of the aggressor state to identify locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the frontline areas in the south of Ukraine.

As a result of a special operation in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the SSU detained a woman – an agent of the russian intelligence who was spying on two directions of the front at once.

The first was in the south of Dnipropetrovsk region, where she was reconnoitering bases of the AFU units.

The other area was Zaporizhzhia direction. The occupiers were interested in routes of movement and locations of Ukrainian defenders on Zaporizhzhia outskirts.

The enemy intended to use the information from the asset to break through the Ukrainian defences.

The SSU was proactive, uncovering the informant at an early stage and detaining her ‘red-handed’, when she was taking pictures of the movement of Ukrainian armoured vehicles.

Action was taken to protect the locations of Ukrainian defenders.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator was a saleswoman in a village shop in the south of Dnipropetrovsk region, bordering on Zaporizhzhia district.

The woman tried to establish close contacts with the Ukrainian military servicemen in order to covertly elicit information.

She passed the collected intelligence to the occupiers through her friend who lives in the temporarily occupied Crimea and has a brother – a commander of a russian unit.

SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement or location of the AFU, if it is possible to identify them on the ground).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of Chernivtsi Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
