SBU detains corrupt Halych customs inspector
SBU detained an inspector of “Yavoriv” customs post of Halych customs for systematic receiving of bribes from drivers.
Allegedly, the official set up a corruption mechanism during the customs clearance of vehicles. For a certain amount of money, he ensured the unhindered passage of vehicles across the customs border.
SBU operatives documented, that the customs officer “earned” over UAH 60,000 (USD 2,069) per shift. In total, the officer had 15 shifts and worked at the post for 1,5 months.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on receiving another part of the bribe.
The criminal proceedings were initiated upon the acceptance of the offer or the promise, or receiving illegal gain by the official. The investigation is ongoing. The involvement of the customs post top- management into the scheme is being checked.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, located in the city of Lviv, with the assistance of the internal security unit of the Halych customs, under the legal supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor's Office.
