SSU detains former communist member of Zaporizhzhia City Council who guided russian missiles at Ukraine

As a result of a special operation in Zaporizhzhia, the SSU Counterintelligence detained another FSB agent.

Using his information, russian invaders carried out a series of missile attacks on the city in April and May 2023.

Then, 3 local residents were killed, 30 private houses were destroyed and one industrial enterprise was damaged as a result of the enemy’s strikes.

According to the investigation, the aggressor’s accomplice is an ardent supporter of communism, who was sentenced to 6 years in prison in 2001 for plotting a coup d’état in Ukraine.

After release, the man joined a local branch of the banned communist party and in 2015 was a member of Zaporizhzhia City Council for almost six months.

He was also an active member of the pro-kremlin organizations Union of soviet officers and Immortal regiment.

In late 2022, the ‘activist’ was recruited by an FSB officer for reconnaissance and sabotage against Ukraine.

To carry out enemy assignments, the agent formed his own intelligence network, which included his former ‘fellow party members’ living in Zaporizhzhia.

They unwittingly provided the enemy informant with data on operating industrial enterprises and technical condition of critical infrastructure.

Then, the traitor personally drove to the target area and conducted covert photo and video recording of Ukrainian facilities.

The obtained information was passed on to russia for preparing air strikes on the region.

After attacks, the spy would ‘report’ on their impact to the FSB.

During the search at the detainee’s home, the SSU found the mobile phones that he used to communicate with the russian special service.

A large number of banned communist symbols were also seized from the suspect.

Based on the collected evidence, the SSU investigators served the enemy agent a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
