SSU detains its former officer who urged Ukrainian defenders to desert

The SSU Internal Security detained a former employee of a unit of the SSU, who carried out subversive activities for the benefit of the aggressor state.

On the eve of the full-scale invasion, he resigned and left for one of the EU states.

From there, the man called his former colleagues and urged them to defect from Kyiv, promising that if they did, ‘everything would be fine.’ In case of refusal, he threatened to ‘leak’ their personal data to russian intelligence services.

The offender also tried to pass on to the enemy information on the progress of mobilization and location of individual units of Ukrainian Defence Forces.

To do this, he tried to obtain this information from SSU officers.

In March 2023, the traitor crossed Ukraine’s state border and was immediately detained.

Based on the evidence collected, investigators of the SSU Main Investigation Department notified him of suspicion under several Articles of the CCU:

  • 14.1, 111.1 (high treason),
  • 15.2, 27.4, 408.4 (desertion).

The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The investigation is underway.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
