SSU detains deserting serviceman who betrayed oath in 2014

In Kyiv, the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations detained a former employee of one of the SSU’s regional offices, who is suspected of desertion.

For eight years, he had been hiding from the investigation in the temporarily occupied areas of eastern Ukraine.

In 2014, the official did not comply with the order of his superiors to report to a new place of military service and remained in the occupied part of Luhansk region.

In April 2015, the man was notified of suspicion in absentia under the Article 408.1 of the CCU (desertion) and was declared wanted.

Subsequently, the offender decided to return to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine and settled in Kyiv, hoping to ‘get lost’.

The SSU found and detained him. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation and investigative actions were carried out under the supervision of Luhansk Specialized Military and Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
