SSU detains GRU agent: using his coordinates russian drones killed three civilians in Sumy

The SSU Military Counterintelligence has detained another enemy agent in Sumy. He is a 23-year-old local resident who adjusted russian strikes on his region.

The investigation established that the occupiers had used his coordinates on October 22 this year to attack Sumy with Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

As a result of the strike on residential buildings in the city, three civilians were killed, including a child – a 9th grade student of a local school.

In addition to directing russian drones at Sumy’s civilian infrastructure, the agent was reconnoitering geolocations of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

To collect intelligence, the traitor drove his car around Sumy and adjacent areas and secretly photographed and filmed targets.

The enemy accomplice was in direct contact with a serving employee of the GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces).

For communication, they used an anonymous chat in a messenger app, where the asset sent videos of potential targets with coordinates and detailed descriptions of the targets.

The SSU Military Counterintelligence apprehended the agent ‘red-handed’ when he was conducting reconnaissance near military facilities.

According to the investigation, the russian GRU recruited the man remotely this fall. Prior to that, he wrote in russian Telegram channels that he was waiting for russia to capture Sumy region.

During the searches, the SSU seized his phone and laptop with evidence of his communication with the occupiers.

SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
