SSU detains spotter who adjusted russia’s missile strike on Kramatorsk
In hot pursuit, the SSU Counterintelligence apprehended the agent of russian intelligence services who adjusted the enemy’s missile strike on a café in downtown Kramatorsk on 27 June 2023. This was announced by the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk.
‘The russian agent will undoubtedly stand trial in a Ukrainian court. But this detention is also a signal to all other spotters and traitors working for russia. Remember: punishment is inevitable! Just as the organizers of war crimes – putin’s regime – will inevitably be held accountable before an international tribunal. To this end, we are conducting legal work and collecting evidence for international courts. At the same time, SSU personnel, together with brothers-in-arms from the Defence Forces, are every day doing their best to take revenge on the enemy for all the grief that russia has brought to Ukraine. And we will keep doing this until our complete Victory!’ the SSU Head noted.
The detained individual, who adjusted the strike on Kramatorsk, was a sleeper agent activated by the GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of russian armed forces). On 27 June 2023, he was instructed to find out if the café was open and to record presence of visitors in it.
To carry out the enemy’s order, the agent covertly filmed the establishment and the cars parked nearby. The spy then sent the footage to the GRU.
Having received this information, the invaders fired at the café with people inside.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a Kramatorsk resident, an employee of a local gas transport company.
Earlier, he had been recruited remotely by the russian military intelligence. After the full-scale invasion, the asset was ‘activated’ and assigned to collect data on locations and movements of the Defence Forces in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
The agent was also to pass to the GRU coordinates of local critical infrastructure and public areas with concentrations of civilians.
The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring this suspect and all those involved to justice.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The russian attack on June 27, 2023, killed at least 9 local residents, including 3 children, and injured 60.
