SSU detains FSB ‘mole’ spying on Ukraine-belarus border

The SSU Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the State Border Guard Service, apprehended a border guard who was an agent of the FSB. He was collecting information on Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the northern border of Volyn region.

The perpetrator is a contract serviceman, head of a squad of the local border guard detachment, who was recruited by the russian service.

On enemy instructions, the ‘mole’ was trying to identify locations of fortifications and approximate number of Ukrainian troops defending the border with belarus.

He also tried to provide the russians with the coordinates of the AFU weapons and ammunition depots.

If the asset performed the tasks, the occupiers promised to exfiltrate him to russia and place him in the russian occupation forces.

The SSU identified the traitor at an early stage and documented his criminal actions.

At the final stage of the operation, the SSU detained the agent near his place of service.

Action was taken to protect the locations of Ukrainian units.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice was recruited remotely by an FSB officer Aleksey Dobritskyi, stationed in the temporarily occupied Luhansk.

The man came to russia’s attention while serving in eastern Ukraine. He was later transferred to a border guard unit in Volyn oblast.

An anonymous chat in a messenger app was used for communication between the agent and his handler.

During the searches, the SSU seized the suspect’s mobile phone and computer.

Based on the evidence, the investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Volyn region jointly with the SBGS Internal Security Unit under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
