The SBU neutralized an organized criminal group engaged in the illegal sale of weapons. One of the gang leaders was detained during a special operation in Kropyvnytskyi.

The SBU seized combat grenades and explosives from the suspect.

The information on the possible use of the seized weapons to destabilize the situation in the region on the eve of the Independence Day of Ukraine is being checked.

The illegal activity was organized by a resident of Kropyvnytskyi. Allegedly, the suspect is a repeated offender, prosecuted for serious crimes, including illegal possession and sale of weapons. The criminal group included several locals.

The group attempted to set up a channel for the illegal sale of weapons. They searched for their clients through personal connections in criminal circles.

During searches of the suspect’s residence, the law enforcement officers seized:

• more than 0.5 kg of explosives,
• three F-1 and RGD grenades with fuses,
• a fuse component for an anti-tank grenade launcher,
• ammunition for firearms of various caliber,
• a hunting rifle,
• three smoke grenades.

The seized samples of weapons, ammunition and explosives were sent for examination.

The detainee is to be served a notice of suspicion, the type of detention is to be chosen.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case and bring to justice other persons involved in the illegal activity.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Kirovohrad region together with the National Police investigators, under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
