Donetsk region: SSU detains enemy informant who planned to blow himself up if caught

The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended another FSB informant who was gathering intelligence on Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Donetsk region. The traitor kept a combat grenade at home, which he intended to detonate if uncovered by the law enforcement. However, the SSU disarmed and neutralized the suspect in time.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator was reconnoitering locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units near Kramatorsk.

His ‘priority’ was to identify combat positions of Ukrainian air defence and heavy artillery.

The spy also drew schemes for the aggressor to locate fortifications and engineering barriers in the region.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare new missile and artillery strikes on the frontline city and its surroundings.

However, the SSU timely identified the informant, documented the crime and detained him. This thwarted the enemy’s plans to carry out a series of air attacks on the AFU military facilities.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a resident of Kramatorsk. On a dating site in August 2023, he met a russian woman cooperating with russia’s FSB.

On her instructions, the man collected information on Ukrainian military facilities in the area.

He sent the data to the woman via a messenger, and she passed them to an FSB officer deployed to fight against the Defence Forces in Avdiivka sector.

The informant also kept a live grenade in the closet at his home to blow himself up in case of detection.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces 12 years in prison.

The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
